Instructions

Over the past year, the Faculty Association Executive Board has worked to update its Constitution and Bylaws. During recent Faculty Association (“Association”) General Meetings, there has been robust discussion on various aspects of the draft Constitution and Bylaws. From March 14, 2024, until April 1,, 2024, the Association will hold a vote on the proposed Constitution and Bylaws. Click Here to download and review a copy of the proposed Constitution and Bylaws.

The Constitution and Bylaws will be adopted if two-thirds vote of the returned ballots are in favor of the document. Below is  a digital ballot with which you may vote in favor or against the proposed Constitution and Bylaws.

Association members will have until April 1, 2024, at 5:00 pm to cast their vote regarding the proposed Constitution and Bylaws. Once the voting process is complete, the Constitutional Review Committee, whose chairperson is Rachel Marcial, will be responsible for counting and verifying the vote.

The Faculty Association Constitution and Bylaws were last reviewed many years ago and in need of extensive updating. The proposed Constitution and Bylaws constitute a significant change to this document. Among the key points in the proposed Constitution and Bylaws are:

  1. A preamble specifying Association goals to:
  2. “continually improve faculty working environment and conditions to ensure more ensure equitable and effective opportunities for students; and
  3. “collectively advocate on matters of faculty rights, responsibilities, compensation and benefits.”  Section I-Preamble and Section II- Purposes (p. 3)
  4.     Association membership is open to both full-time and adjunct faculty. Section III-Membership (pp.3-4)
  5. The Association Executive Board is comprised of eight voting members (“officers”) and five non-voting members. Some of the Executive Board’s responsibilities are to:
  6.   Meeting monthly during the Fall and Spring Semesters;
  7. Bring issues for discussion and voting by the membership Section IV.E-Officer Duties (pp. 4-8)
  8. Each officer has a two- year term and the proposed Constitution and Bylaws outlines the duties for the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chairperson, Communication Chairperson, At-Large Discussion Team Member and Adjunct Faculty Chairperson. Sections IV.A.2 and IV.B-Officers and Terms (pp. 4-5)
  9.     Besides its Executive Board, the Association will have five standing committees which are the: Coalition Building Committee, Constitutional Review Committee, Faculty Discussion Team Committee; Faculty Advocacy Committee; and Nominating Committee. In addition, ad hoc committees will be formed when needed. Section V-Committee, Membership and Duties (pp. 8-11)

       The Executive Board encourages all Faculty Association members to review the proposed Constitution and Bylaws carefully and exercise their vote by April 1, 2024, at 5:00 pm.
