How To Be A Successful Remote Learner

How To Be A Successful Remote Learner

Read the Syllabus

The syllabus has all of the information that you need to be successful in your class. It usually contains the class schedule, which is expected in the class and the grading scale for the class.  It is an important document, which you should review regularly. Check it throughout the semester because it can get updated often.

Create a Learning Environment

To help with your routine, we recommend you designate a specific area in your apartment, home or somewhere on campus where you can go to complete coursework if possible. We recommend the area be free of noise, visual distractions, and electronics (even cell phones and Facebook).

Be Proactive

To make the most out of your remote learning experience and to be successful, we recommend that you:

    1. Check your email frequently.
    2. Log on to your course every single day.
    3. Keep in contact with your instructor.
    4. Allow a reasonable amount of time for instructor responses (minimum 24 hours).
    5. Interact with your classmates as much as possible from at least a six feet distance.
    6. Contact the instructor for help if you have trouble understanding a unit of study.
    7. Apply what you learn.

Ask Questions

If you need help ask the question. Asking questions is the key to learning. Ask your instructor, fellow students, and/or the eLearning Support Center Links to an external site. if you have questions or need help. Don't get discouraged and don't give up. Remember, you are not alone!

Take responsibility for your learning!

While you can (and should) ask questions and for help, ultimately it is up to you to succeed! You are responsible for understanding the course content and turning in your assignments on time. Be proactive, don’t sit back and wait for things to happen because they never will. Make sure you take initiative.
